The Estate is located in the middle of a very vast area of vegetation. It gives its inhabitants the feeling to be in their own planet, far from the chaos on NYC.
The Type/Variant house (1996) is located in Northern Wisconsin. The design began with the client's interest in collecting objects in series. Therefore the house is conceived as a collection of wood-framed, copper clad volumes, which are differentiated through their function, orientation… The building area is 8000 square foot.
The Architect
Vincent James (Minneapolis), founded his practice in 1990. As the principal of VJAA, his work has been published internationally. VJAA has received numerous design awards, including the AIA honor Award for the Type/ Variant house. James lectures widely and is a Professor at the Harvard GSD. The firm rejects the expectation of a signature style and adopts a self described polivalent approach in which the architectural form is the result of responding to the context.
